Kinja'd!!!

All I wanted was an older phone that could use the 128gb microSD cards I have as well as being able to hook up to a TV via HDMI. I found what I was looking for at a reasonable price and then spent the next couple of days, essentially my weekend, communicating with the seller to complete the sale. The phone I found had some cracks and cosmetic damage but was apparently fully functional which is just fine for my needs. But here I am again , up too late, bitching about flaky, inconsistent sellers.

The plan was to use just one device for audio whilst flying in a few weeks as well as for video whilst visiting friends and family, figuring 128gb would be sufficient. But unless I find something else I guess I’m going back to a multiple device solution. I wanted something smaller than a tablet, but if it comes down to it I may be able to use an ancient Nook HD+ if I  root it and it can handle large microSD cards.

That was just one device. I won’t go into the ordeal of trying to acquire the Lenovo tablet I also found. I’m going to guess that a lot of the stuff I find for sale is of questionable ownership status and that I probably don’t want to be dealing with these people. You know things are weird when eBay seems like a viable alternative...

Craigslist sellers suck hard, have you tried Facebook Marketplace? How much are you looking at spending? I’m sure you can find a Note 3 or something similar for relatively cheap locally. I’ve got one laying around somewhere, and they supp ort up to 256GB cards.

I actively try to avoid anything FB. My budget is $50, or a little more if I find something better .

For video why don’t you just grab something like a used Roku 3 or something similar. Used ones usually sell for around $30 - $40. They have a full size USB port that you can just plug a card reader with your SD card or a flash drive into, and I know it can read 128gb cards/ flash drives. Not to mention it has a remote which will make it a million times easier to use as a video player. And they still get software updates regularly .

I have an old Roku 3 that I take with me whenever I travel specifically for watching movies and such. Plus you don’t have to worry about having another device to charge.

Oh and for what it’s worth I have had really good experiences using the offerup app in my area. It seems like most people are gradually moving away from Craigslist over to the Offerup and Letgo apps.

I actually have numerous media players, and even a Raspberry Pi that could function as a media player. I was hoping to use an older phone so that I could also use it, via Bluetooth, on the ‘plane as an MP3 player. I thought it would be quick, simple and cheap, but I didn’t figure in the aggravation factor that comes from wasting my time dealing with flakes.

I’ll give some of those other apps a try. Thanks for the recommendations.
